On Thursday, July 9 and Saturday, July 11, 2009, H.H. Sant
Rajinder Singh Ji Maharaj held spiritual discourses at the Science of Spiritual
Meditation Center. In his talk on Thursday evening, the spiritual Master spoke
about how our faith in God should remain steady despite the ups and downs of
life. We want to experience the Lord so that we can believe in God, stated the
spiritual Master. This, he said, is what meditation is all about. “The journey
within,” he concluded, “is wondrous.” Following this talk, he put the audience
into meditation.
On Saturday, July 11th, 2009, Sant Rajinder
Singh Ji Maharaj answered questions via a live broadcast with the Darshan
Meditation children’s camp in Bowling Green, Virginia. Campers had sent in
questions and then watched the session from Virginia as everyone gained from the
spiritual Master’s thoughtful and gracious replies.
Sant Rajinder Singh Ji Maharaj
opened the session by congratulating the children and organizers on a job well
done. The earlier we begin to focus our attention in the spiritual arena, he
said, the more chances we have of success. A 9-year old attendee of the camp
asked how we can know that we burn off karma during meditation. The spiritual
Master responded that when we meditate, we connect with the divine power of God
within us. As we do so, this connection, allows us to burn off the karma that we
have accrued as a result of our daily thoughts, words and deeds in this lifetime
- our kriyaman karma. This is a great blessing, he explained. With daily
and regular meditation, we are given a mechanism to not add to our karmic burden
in this lifetime. As this happens, we can progress quickly on the spiritual
path, exit the wheel of transmigration and find our way back Home. When asked why people seek holy
initiation, the spiritual Master replied that at some point in our lives, we
begin to realize that there is more to life than just the physical world we live
in. We begin to ask about our true purpose, and as we do so, we may come across
the teachings of saints and mystics who talk about spiritual experiences, and
then also want to experience these realms in the Beyond. A true seeker, he said,
will realize that our purpose in life is to know ourselves as soul, and to merge
with God. It is in search of these goals that one should seek initiation. To a question about the right
technique of meditation, the spiritual Master lovingly explained that we should
aim to focus all our attention at our third eye, located between and behind the
eye brows. We must allow the soul to rise above physical body consciousness; in
order for this to happen, we must keep the mind occupied, through repetition of
the Names of God (Simran). The key is to withdraw all our sensory
currents (of touch, taste, hearing, smell and sight) and focus them at the seat
of the soul – the third eye. When asked about how souls
communicate on other planes, the spiritual Master stated that as the soul leaves
the physical realm, all physical modes of communication are left behind. In the
realms further within, souls are still able to communicate without the use of
physical modalities. This communication occurs because our consciousness evolves
as it passes through different realms. The spiritual Master likened this to the
unspoken communication on the earth plane between twins, or between a mother and
a child.A 9-year old asked the spiritual
Master to describe what Sach Khand (the region of all Truth) is like. The
spiritual Master lovingly responded that Sach Khand, our True Home, is full of
love, harmony and bliss. There is love all around, and there are moments of
sweetness at all times, he said.
Concluding the question and answer
session, the spiritual Master once again congratulated all the children and
their adult sevadars gathered at Bowling Green for the time they had
committed to their spiritual growth. He encouraged them to continue their
meditation practices daily upon their return home. When our attention is focused
on God, our day goes by very smoothly, he said. At the end of the day, we must
pray to the Lord, giving thanks and asking that our next day be even better. If
we continue to live ethical lives, full of love, compassion, humility,
truthfulness and selfless service, we will definitely reach God. Following this,
the spiritual Master put the audience into meditation. Afterward, a delicious langar (free meal) was enjoyed by all.
On Sunday July 12, 2009, Sant Rajinder Singh Ji Maharaj
gave a spiritual discourse at the Holiday Inn Select in Naperville, Illinois. He
opened his talk by congratulating all the children and adult sevadars who
had attended the Children’s Camp in Bowling Green, Virginia and who had returned
home that day. He emphasized the importance of taking a break from our day to
day routine and dedicate time toward our spiritual progress. He also urged the
children to implement all the healthy spiritual habits they had cultivated
during the one-week camp, and to integrate them into their regular routine upon
their return home. It is only when we successfully integrate these new habits
into our daily routine, that we reap the benefits, he said. As we start our search for
meaning, Sant Rajinder Singh Ji Maharaj stated, we come across scriptures and
the words of saints and mystics who promise communion with God. Saints have
connected with the Lord because they are receptive to the divine radiation. They
are tuned into these spiritual revelations. Likewise, the spiritual Master
encouraged all to tune into the right arena and to be receptive and progress
spiritually. We must be like “an empty cup, ready to receive the divine nectar”
said the spiritual Master – an analogy used in Sant Mat and Sufi texts to
describe the spiritual radiation. God is always within and around
us, he lovingly said. It is our shortcoming that we are not able to realize this
Truth. We have certain expectations of how we want to experience God, and hence
fail to see God in the form of rain showers, hear God in the form of thunder,
feel God in the form of a butterfly touching our skin, or experience the miracle
of God in the birth of a baby. We need to be receptive to receive God in all
forms. To further explain the omnipresence of God, and the importance of tuning
in to the right channel, the spiritual Master used the example of a wireless
phone. As long as there is a transmitting network, a connection can be made
wherever and whenever. Similarly, God is always amidst us, and if we are tuned
in, we can connect with God regardless of time and space.
Following this enlightening talk,
the spiritual Master put the audience into meditation. Soon after, Sant Rajinder Singh Ji
Maharaj, Mata Rita Ji and Mata Harbhajan Kaur Ji bid farewell to the crowd, as
they departed for Delhi, India.
