Sant Mat - A Rich Heritage

The spiritual Masters of Science of Spirituality have deep respect for all faith traditions. They teach spirituality as a science, one that embodies the mystic core of all religions.

The age-old teachings of Science of Spirituality, or Sant Mat (Sant translates as saints and Mat translates as teachings, so Sant Mat means teachings of the saints), were first brought to the West by Hazur Baba Sawan Singh Ji Maharaj (1858-1948). When students from Europe and America went to India to learn meditation under his guidance, they returned to establish meditation centers in their own cities and towns.

Hazur Baba Sawan Singh Ji Maharaj's successor, Sant Kirpal Singh Ji Maharaj (1894-1974), made these teachings available to even more spiritual seekers through his three world tours. During his ministry, centers spread throughout North and South America, Europe, Asia, and Australia.

Sant Kirpal Singh Ji Maharaj wrote numerous scholarly books encompassing all aspects of spirituality, yoga, and comparative religion. In India, he is known as the father of human unity. Many of his verbal discourses are available today, preserved on audio tape and some on videotape.

In 1974, Sant Darshan Singh Ji Maharaj (1921-1989) continued the spiritual work as Sant Kirpal Singh Ji Maharaj's successor. Through four world tours, his many spiritual books, audio and videotapes, he taught how spirituality could be practiced in the context of modern life.

Since 1989, Sant Rajinder Singh Ji Maharaj, the current spiritual leader of Science of Spirituality/Sawan Kirpal Ruhani Mission, has expanded the number of global centers. His spiritual discourses, meditation seminars, conferences, and numerous world tours, bring the spiritual benefits of meditation to countless numbers of people all over the globe.
