Elk jaar sterven meer dan 1,7 miljoen Amerikanen aan deze ziekten. 610.000 mensen alleen al sterven aan een hartaandoening, waarmee het doodsoorzaak nummer 1 is.\u00a0<u><\/u><u><\/u><\/p>\n<p>Hoewel genetica een rol kan spelen bij de ontwikkeling van deze ziekten, zijn het meestal ziekten van de levensstijl.<\/p>\n<p>De bekende specialist fysische geneeskunde en revalidatie, veelgeprezen auteur en internationaal spreker, <strong>Dr. Kunwarjit Singh Duggal, <\/strong>\u00a0vertelt hoe we de ontwikkeling en progressie van chronische ziekten kunnen voorkomen als we de juiste manier van eten en de juiste manier van bewegen kiezen. Een korte weergave van de inhoud:<\/p>\n<p><strong><em>Welke rol speelt voeding in de geneeskunde?<\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n<p>In de VS is doodsoorzaak nummer \u00e9\u00e9n hart- en vaatziekten, en het lijdt geen twijfel dat het wordt veroorzaakt door voedsel. Genetica speelt ongetwijfeld een rol, maar het voedsel dat we eten heeft een aanzienlijke invloed op onze gezondheid. Als je kijkt naar enkele van de meest voorkomende chronische ziekten waarmee Amerikanen worden geconfronteerd, namelijk hoge bloeddruk, diabetes en hoog cholesterol, dan komen die allemaal voort uit het eten van de verkeerde soorten voedsel.<\/p>\n<p>\u00a0Een hoog cholesterolgehalte veroorzaakt blokkades in het hart, wat kan resulteren in een hartaanval, blokkades in de hersenen wat kan resulteren in een beroerte, en blokkades in de benen of armen. In feite zijn dit allemaal dezelfde dingen, en ze komen van het voedsel dat we eten.<\/p>\n<p><strong><em>Wat kunnen mensen dagelijks doen?<\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n<p>De vraag over gezondheid is deze: maken we &#8211; als samenleving &#8211; de juiste keuzes? De meeste van onze chronische ziekten zijn levensstijlziekten. De eerste vraag die we onszelf moeten stellen is wat voor soort brandstof we in ons lichaam stoppen. Als we voeding van slechte kwaliteit in ons lichaam stoppen, kunnen we niet verwachten dat ons lichaam veel doet. We moeten onze voedselkeuzes opnieuw bekijken en echte, volwaardige voeding tot ons nemen in plaats van bewerkt voedsel.<\/p>\n<p>\u00a0Het tweede aspect is activiteit. We zijn een zittende samenleving. We zitten veel, dus we moeten bewegen en lichamelijk actief zijn. Zitten is het nieuwe roken. Het is gemakkelijker om problemen in ons fysieke lichaam te voorkomen dan om ze achteraf op te lossen.
