Overcome Anxiety through Meditation
This afternoon, Sant Rajinder Singh Ji Maharaj answered spiritual questions from the audience gathered at the SOS International Meditation Center in Lisle, Illinois. Responding to a question about how meditation can help us overcome anxiety, the spiritual Master explained that anxiety comes into our lives when things are contrary to our expectations. It can arise when we re-live a painful incident from the past or entertain regrets about decisions or actions we took. It can also occur when we worry about the future for ourselves or a loved one and in many other circumstances when life does not seem to go our way.
Anxiety is a toxin that defiles the mind regardless of how it arises. It first creates turmoil in the mind and then impacts us emotionally and physically. It is important to recognize anxiety as a toxin and to understand that there are mechanisms to overcome it. Sant Rajinder Singh Ji said that meditation helps us deal with our anxiety when we focus our attention on the source of all happiness and love within us. We recognize God’s presence in our lives, and we take comfort in God’s love just as we take comfort in the love of our parents, spouses, and other loved ones throughout life. We know that help is always at hand because God is always with us. As we continue to experience God’s love and Light, negativity begins to fade. Through meditation we can overcome the feeling of anxiety in our lives.
