Moving Toward Our Divine Source

On the second day of his spiritual tour to Athens, Sant Rajinder Singh Ji Maharaj addressed an international gathering at the Novotel Athens. He reflected on the true purpose of human life and the soul’s eternal relationship with God. To begin the program, the spiritual Master’s wife, Mata Rita Ji, sang a devotional hymn that offered reverence to God, the Source of all creation, as the foundation of life.

Addressing the ups and downs of human life, Sant Rajinder Singh Ji explained that happiness and sorrow are temporary experiences tied to the changing conditions of the outer world. Bliss, however, is of a different nature altogether. It has no opposite, for it is the soul’s original state. Bliss arises when we connect with God’s infinite love and experience the divine Light already within us. Turning to the reality of death, he reminded the audience that every human being must one day leave the physical world. After death, the body remains, yet it can no longer move, speak, or think. This, he explained, points to the existence of the soul, the divine spark that gives life to the human form.

Living at the level of our physical senses, we remain largely unaware that our true identity lies beyond the body and mind. To realize ourselves as soul is to move closer to the Creative Power behind all existence and to enter a state of enduring peace and bliss. The spiritual Master emphasized that saints and mystics throughout history have taught that the soul can be experienced directly by turning our attention within. Through meditation, we gradually connect with the divine current of God’s Light flowing within us and rise above the temporary fluctuations of the outer world.

Referring to the growing popularity of meditation in the West, Sant Rajinder Singh Ji noted that many approach meditation for health, clarity, or productivity. While acknowledging these benefits, he emphasized that the true purpose of meditation is to experience the soul’s connection with God and ultimately return to our Source. He said the mind creates feelings of separateness, superiority, competition, and jealousy, preventing us from realizing our oneness with humanity and with God. To become truly human, we must embody the qualities of “truth, consciousness, and bliss,” shedding the ego and walking the narrow path of love that leads the soul toward union with the Divine.
