Discover Your Inner Sanctuary through Meditation
This afternoon, Sant Rajinder Singh Ji Maharaj spoke at the Columbia Ballroom of the Hyatt Regency Hotel in Seattle, where many new seekers had gathered to hear his talk, “Discover Your Inner Sanctuary Through Meditation.” This was the third day of his Evergreen Love and Spirit Tour in the city. Recognizing Seattle’s role as a global center for technology and innovation, he reflected on the pace of modern life. While technology has connected humanity as never before, it has also created an unprecedented flood of information.
The more information we receive, the spiritual Master explained, the more we must process and decipher, bringing greater stress and strain into our lives. Combined with the continual changes we face in our careers, health, relationships, and daily circumstances, modern life often leaves us searching for peace.
Although places of worship provide moments of calm and refuge, the challenges of life still await us when we return home. True peace, therefore, must be found in a sanctuary that is always available, regardless of place or circumstance. When life brings challenges beyond our ability to cope, we naturally turn toward God in search of lasting peace. This raises an important question: Where can God truly be found?
Drawing upon the common teachings of the world’s great faiths, Sant Rajinder Singh Ji explained that every religion traces its origins to saints and mystics who experienced God directly. Though traditions may differ outwardly, they all point toward the same inner reality: God is not confined to a distant heaven or a particular place of worship but resides within every human being. Our true identity is not the body or the mind, but the soul, a spark of the Divine. The purpose of human life, therefore, is to experience God for ourselves and cultivate the soul’s eternal relationship with God.
Each of us has been given the gateway to that experience through the third eye, the seat of the soul. Recounting the familiar story of the musk deer, which searches throughout the forest for the beautiful fragrance that is, in fact, coming from within itself. In the same way, he explained, we spend our lives searching outwardly for the peace, happiness, and fulfillment that already reside within our own soul.
When, through meditation, we gradually withdraw our attention from the distractions of the outer world and focus it within, we begin to experience the divine Light of God, which removes the coverings of mind, matter, and illusion that cover the soul. This inner experience brings about a profound transformation. Realizing that the same divine Light shines within every person dissolves the barriers that separate us, allowing love, compassion, understanding, and harmony to blossom naturally. The peace cultivated in meditation no longer remains confined to the meditation sitting but gradually permeates every aspect of daily life, enriching both ourselves and everyone around us.
