I wish everyone all over the world a Happy Mother’s Day. This is a holiday that began in America to honor one’s mother. It is celebrated as the second Sunday in May. Yet, Mother’s Day should be honored not only on one day a year, but every day and every minute of our lives. We can honor our mothers by showing them gratitude for all the love and care they gave us.
A mother’s love is a reflection of God’s love for us. God is our true Parent. Without God none of us would be here. We can get an inkling about God’s love for us by seeing what mothers do for their children.
God’s love for us is selfless. A mother’s love is the closest analogy we can have for selfless love in the world.
A mother gives everything to her child without even thinking of her own needs. She undergoes the hardship of carrying the child for nine months in the womb, to the pain of childbirth, to the sleepless nights of caring for a crying infant.
She must bathe, feed, and care for him or her. The mother must deal with the difficulties of a toddler who exercises independence by running all over the place. As a child grows and reaches the teen years, the mother is there to meet every need. Even when the child grows up, gets married, settles, has a family, and reaches middle age or the senior years, the mother is still a mother and loves and worries as much as she did when the child was young.
God loves us much more than a mother does for her child. No matter in what stage of life we are, God loves us dearly and wants the best for us. Whether we remember God or not, the Creator remembers and cares for us.
For this love, each of us needs to be grateful to God and our mothers.
As a way to promote community awareness of the value of vegetarianism and meditation, this weekend, August 10-11, 2019, one of the largest vegetarian fairs in North America, called Veggie Fest, will provide tips and strategies to maintain health. Veggie Fest is designed to increase awareness of the benefits of a vegetarian diet.
Today is the first day of summer. We can put the cold of winter behind us and enjoy the warmth. Yet, often we are not faced with the challenge of staying cool because we find a way to minimize the effects of excessive heat. We may use air-conditioning, fans, or remain in the shade. Our attempt is to keep our physical body cool.
On May 30 people all over the world honor Sant Darshan Singh Ji Maharaj, the great spiritual Master and poet-saint who left the world thirty years ago in 1989. It has been thirty years since he left, but his life and example still shine brightly as a guiding star upon which we can base our own lives. Among his radiant qualities were his love and kindness.
